We need to elect more women to public offices, state and federal. Our laws providing safety nets for families and low income people are pathetically inadequate. This can change (see European countries) but only if we women vote.
Ugh so depressing. I feel this as a single mom with an autistic teenager. And I’ve got no one else. The dad is a dead beat dad now. 😢 So I write for my sanity, not for money, because it can’t pay enough.
But I can’t complain too much because I have supportive parents that still help me and my other work totally supports my life. But it gets lonely and I get sooooooo tired of managing all the finances and doing the taxes etc. Def wish I had a man doing it all for me, as sadly unfeminist as that sounds...
It's the emotional drain as much as the financial drain -- even when you have the support of people who care and have work, the loneliness is never far away. The idea of turning all the hard stuff over to someone else is so alluring, so seductive. I get it. I wish you relief!
Yes. There’s so much food for thought here. As a solo parent of two young daughters, I can certainly relate to the math problems. Every time we leave the dentist/optometrist/orthodontist, I vow to just give up on writing and get a full-time job with benefits already. So I scroll through job postings until my eyes burn, looking for something that fits within my qualifications and obstacles (childcare, transportation). It’s a dispiriting way to spend a Saturday morning, let me tell you.
Ladyparts sounds like a grim, but fascinating, read.
I'm not sure reading Ladyparts will make your Saturday mornings brighter. You are well acquainted with the issues and are doing amazing work with your writing and your kids. It would be so much easier for women and potential employers if healthcare wasn't the employers had to provide.
My further thoughts are too long. Decided to make them separate. I apologize in advance for the length. This posting is hard to read and just pretend it out of existence.
Grim reads only lightened by the tenacity of those who suffer, including the children and parents who try to help as best they can. Been there, done that. How I want to give hugs but then we would part and the loneliness and desperation would remain. Many men are such hollow creatures. Robert 🐰

Agreed. I'm hoping we see a strong presence from women in the midterms and beyond.

Thank you! ♥️ It is seductive, and it’s easy to feel envious of other women who have that man doing their finances...

Very good writing -- saved for later so that the caffeine helps me realize what I think about it.
