omg - an egregious error sits smack in the middle of my ode to eating! We did not, as suggested, cook our friends... we aren't cannibals (wink-wink, gasp)
And here's another email that came along from Ruth who subscribed after her niece shared her copy (these are too nice to keep to myself):
I sat down Sunday morning with coffee, a croissant and and some apple slices and read through this blog at my dining table. It was raining and foggy, I had a fire going, It was a perfect Sunday morning. It was so fun to hear people’s stories and revisit the cookbook icons. I’ve read MFK Fisher and always enjoy food centric books. James Beard was from Oregon and I used to watch The French Chef on public television when I was in college.
I've gotten some fun emails for this issue. Here's one from Joleen F. :
Love, love, love today’s issue.
When you requested our favorite recipes and cookbooks, I asked my brother if he had Mom’s recipe box. It’s an old Tupperware half-gallon ice cream container filled with family recipes. The box got lost when they moved Mom to Memory Care in October.
Meantime, I asked my Aunt if she had Grandma’s recipes. Turns out after Grandma died, my Mom and Aunt divided her recipes. Didn’t occur to them to make copies for each other!
After searching through Mom’s stuff in his basement, my brother finally found the box!
Now we want to scan copies of Grandma’s recipes and make a digital family recipe book! I’m the oldest of 17 grandchildren and over 20 great grandchildren.

That's good to know! I was worried :)
