Oh Betsy, what a lovely read in the fresh morning hours of Saturday. I'm sitting on my front porch, listening more intently for the birds nearby and above me in our locust tree. And did you know Mary Oliver is high on my list of favorite poets? I may ask to borrow "The Genius of Birds" in exchange for more strawberry guavas; or not. The strawberry guavas are yours no matter what. Until we meet on the sidewalk or front porch...
what a lovely and refreshing post. I have noticed, on my daily walks through the parks and woods, many more birds and species than ever before. is it because less people are out, it is less noisy, or am I slowing down to see them and hear their lovely birdsong?

Another Mary Oliver poem from Mike (California):
Dear Betsy:
From the same book, my favorite:
“I Go Down To The Shore"
I go down to the shore in the morning
and depending on the hour the waves
are rolling in or moving out,
and I say, oh, I am miserable,
what shall—
what should I do? And the sea says
in its lovely voice:
Excuse me, I have work to do.”
