Oh look! A list of books whose titles begin with the letter "L" courtesy of wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Books/List_of_books_by_title:_L

My ‘l’ word of the past week was ‘library.’ Lately, when I find myself getting too distracted by my own house--the dishes in the sink, the shaggy lawn, the contents of my fridge--I go to the library to write. It’s quiet, but not silent, and I always get more done there than I do at home. It’s a ‘lovely,’ ‘life-affirming,’ place, and I don’t know what I’d do without it.

Library! A beautiful "L" word and place. I'm so happy you were able to spend quality time there this week. It is shocking sometimes how loud and distracting a house can be, even when you are the only one there..

My L word last week, was life. As in life is hard and then you die. It's been a rough several weeks of illness and injury, proving that life is sometimes hard. But I rebooted my gratitude practice, and I'm feeling better both emotionally and physically. As I approach my 79th birthday, I'm aware of all the aches and pains, but remembering to be grateful every morning for even the little things, keeps me going.

Sandra, life is hard. I'm sorry last week was a tough one for you but I'm inspired by your "gratitude practice." Here's to life. Here's to your life in particular. Glad you are here.

L is for... Leaves are turning red and it's getting chilly.

I can so relate to the nighttime dog patrol story. We live on a boat, and when our dig Ready has diarrhea, which is rare, but happened this last week, I have to get up (and it's usually 2 am) go outside in the cold , and clean off her doggy turf, otherwise she'll walk in it, and cause a real problem... meaning poop prints all over the deck. And yes, that means I usually don't get any more sleep. The things we do.

We just celebrated Ready's 11th gotcha day, so this dog is family, and this is an issue I hope we are past (a certain dog chew was causing the problematic poop), but the sleeplessness that results from our critters nighttime shenanigans is horrible so you have my sympathies.

And you have my sympathies. Ready gives while new meaning to the poop deck..

Thank you for remembering the leaves! It's easy to overlook them here is San Diego where the trees with changing leaves are fewer.

Good morning! I love "l" words -- so much so that it helped me close the deal when I began communicating with a guy online, and we had a long and lush exchange about my love for "l" words! When he went for it and participated with me in a long thread of these, including some that were lascivious, I began to fall in love! Nearly seven years later, we are still living and loving.

This is full of happy "L" words. What a great love story and this one could only happen to a writer. Thank you for sharing it!

The first thing I thought of was when I went to the nursery last week and saw a bag full of live ladybugs. I had no idea you could just walk into a store and buy a bunch of ladybugs for your garden! My first impulse was to feel sad for them, but I realize I have a tendency to ascribe anthropomorphic features to animals that aren't always based on "the science," so to speak. Maybe they don't mind being confined to tiny little mesh bags. Who knows.

Is it also terribly cliched to mention that my favorite "L" book is Lolita? I'm also a huge fan of Lana del Rey, who references Lolita quite a bit in her music, including the book's opening line that is full of "L" words: "light of my life, fire of my loins."

Lady bugs, once released, can have a very happy life in the garden. Perhaps it might help when we think that each time a bag of them is purchased, more ladies are liberated. Love all your "L" associations!

That's so great, Beth. Loud laughter dies make it hard to feel low. You are lucky!
